[PT] O ENSEMBLE MED [mediterrâneo/medieval] propõe anualmente um encontro de artistas da Bacia do Mediterrâneo, que na zona raiana de Idanha-a-Nova, homenageiam o património musical de raiz Mediterrânica e/ou Medieval, de raiz escrita e oral, em particular com a tradição dos adufes / “framedrums”.
A 8ª Edição dos ENCONTROS MED 2026 acontecerá de 23 a 26 de outubro 2026 na Aldeia Histórica de Monsanto, Idanha-a-Nova - Cidade Criativa da Música UNESCO - com oficinas, apresentações públicas e 1 jantar-performance, colocando o Adufe e o património Mediterrâneo e Medieval, no centro da relação entre artistas, participantes e comunidade local.
Para 2026, convidamos Sara Fotros, percussionista iraniana e virtuosa do “Daf” (pandeiro persa de moldura) baseada em Londres. Sara Fotros irá orientar oficinas dedicadas à aprendizagem da linguagem rítmica e musical deste instrumento, com raízes ligadas ao Adufe, e irá apresentar-se no concerto principal do festival com o programa “Cruzamentos Modais: Da Ibéria à Pérsia”, inspirado nas tradições orais da Península Ibérica e nos mundos modais do Mediterrâneo e da Pérsia, colocando em diálogo melodias e práticas de diferentes épocas e geografias, entre as fontes escritas medievais e as tradições orais ainda vivas. O espetáculo terá lugar na Igreja Matriz de Monsanto, no dia 24 de outubro, pelas 21:00, contando com a colaboração especial dos músicos espanhois Carlos Ramirez Valiente, Sara Islan e Michel Gasco, que orientarão também uma conversa sobre a pandeireta ibérica e oficina de voz.
Amélia Fonseca, coordenadora e fundadora das Adufeiras de Monsanto, grupo icónico das cantigas de adufe da região da Beira Baixa e Idanha-a-Nova, continuará a ser a anfitriã dos Encontros Med, divulgando o cancioneiro de tradição oral da aldeia histórica de Monsanto juntamente com Rui Silva, arauto da investigação artística sobre o adufe moderno em Portugal e nas técnicas e linguagens rítmicas do adufe tradicional, dando continuidade à prática avançada de Ensemble de Adufes.
Os ENCONTROS MED [mediterrâneo/medieval] 2026 têm como parceiro estratégico o Município de Idanha-a-Nova / Idanha Cidade Criativa da Música pela UNESCO, apoio da União de Freguesias de Monsanto e Idanha-a-Velha, com financiamento integral pela Geopark Naturtejo, Geoparque Mundial da UNESCO, através de ARI Geografia Criativa-Festival da Paisagem 2026.

[EN] The ENSEMBLE MED [mediterranean/medieval] annually sets up a meeting of artists from the Mediterranean Basin in Idanha-a-Nova, Portugal, an ancestral place where tradition, innovation and contemporaneity coexist, paying homage to the intangible musical heritage of its Mediterranean and/or Medieval roots, within written and oral tradition, mainly in Adufe / Framedrum playing.
The 8th edition of ENCONTROS MED 2026 will take place from October 23 to 26, 2026, in the Historic Village of Monsanto, Idanha-a-Nova —a UNESCO Creative City of Music—featuring workshops, public performances, and one dinner-performance, placing the adufe and Mediterranean and medieval heritage at the heart of the relationship between artists, participants, and the local community.
For 2026, we have invited Sara Fotros, an Iranian percussionist and virtuoso of the “Daf” (Persian framed tambourine) based in London. Sara Fotros will lead workshops dedicated to learning the rhythmic and musical language of this instrument, whose roots are linked to the Adufe, and will perform at the festival’s main concert with the program “Modal Crossings: From Iberia to Persia,” inspired by the oral traditions of the Iberian Peninsula and the modal worlds of the Mediterranean and Persia, bringing into dialogue melodies and practices from different eras and geographies, ranging from medieval written sources to oral traditions still alive today. The performance will take place at the Monsanto Parish Church on October 24 at 9:00 p.m., featuring special guest appearances by Spanish musicians Carlos Ramirez Valiente, Sara Islan, and Michel Gasco, who will also lead a discussion on the Iberian tambourine and a vocal workshop.
Amélia Fonseca, coordinator and founder of Adufeiras de Monsanto—an iconic group dedicated to the adufe songs of the Beira Baixa and Idanha -a-Nova, will continue to host the Encontros Med, promoting the oral song tradition of the historic village of Monsanto alongside Rui Silva, a pioneer in artistic research on the modern adufe in Portugal and on the rhythmic techniques and languages of the traditional adufe, thereby continuing the advanced practice of the Adufes Ensemble.
The ENCONTROS MED [Mediterranean/Medieval] 2026 has as its strategic partner the Municipality of Idanha-a-Nova / Idanha, a UNESCO Creative City of Music, with support from the Union of Parishes of Monsanto and Idanha-a-Velha, and fully funded by Naturtejo Geopark, a UNESCO Global Geopark, through ARI Creative Geography—Landscape Festival 2026.
